The Mataura is only one of a large number of rivers in Southland.

Except for the lower reaches the water is essentially fly water. The river fishes well throughout the season, with daylight lasting from 4am to 10pm.

New Zealand is a country which prides itself on the unspoilt beauty of it's scenery and natural resources. Two years ago, the Mataura was awarded a Water Conservation Order based on it's outstanding fisheries and angling amenity values.

If the Mataura is unfishable there are plenty of alternatives within a short driving distance from Pinehill.
